It is retained by a metal ring which is screwed into the transmission tunnel after first passing it through the cutaway in the carpet. I love this purse, but I think it's appropriate mostly for evening use. As another reviewer has already said, it is more on the coppery side than the rose, but it is still beautiful, so I awarded it five stars. It is very high quality, and it arrived very quickly. I don't think I'll take it to synagogue, though. I think this is more of a date night or special occasion purse. It would be great for dinner dates, concerts (like the symphony or the opera), weddings, proms, etc. It's not something that would pair well with jeans or something you'd take to a picnic. It would make a lovely gift, and it's big enough to hold my phone, lip gloss, and a credit card. You don't want to put too much in it because it looks best flat.
