Cometic uses stainless steel for increased strength, its ability to rebound and resist corrosion. The outer layers of the gasket are embossed and coated on both sides with a Viton rubber material designed to meet the demands of a variety of harsh sealing environments, load conditions and surface finishes. These bowls don't appear to be 18 oz. In fact, they look like they're smaller than my "paper" 16 oz. bowls. Perhaps they are deeper. Still, when I put food in them, they hold pretty much what the paper 16 oz. ones do. I chose them, again because I thought I made a mistake previously to this order. I wanted the sugar cane, heavy duty, microwavable bowls that these are advertised to be. Everything is as described except the size. I'll have to make note that I shouldn't buy these because the oz.'s advertised will persuade one to buy them.
